Miley Cyrus Says Her Mom Once Gave Her Terrible Dating Advice

Miley Cyrus has decided to think twice before taking any relationship advice from her mother, Tish Cyrus-Purcell.

Speaking to The Cut this week as part of a feature on the women in her famous family, Miley Cyrus recalled having to learn the hard way after Cyrus-Purcell passed along a questionable dating tip to her daughter.

Cyrus-Purcell, however, was quick to refute Miley Cyrus’ less-than-positive take. “Well, that was great advice because after so many years, you’re kind of over it and you’re like… in a relationship,” she told the outlet. “At least you get to look at somebody that’s frigging hot!”

After noting that her current boyfriend, musician Maxx Morando, “treats me really well and respects me,” Miley Cyrus quipped: “I had to find someone who treats me with respect and then Mom never really put that on the top three of her must-haves. Mom was like, ‘They need to be tall.’”

“My man’s hot as hell too. But my man also respects me,” she added.

Cyrus-Purcell shares her five children with country musician Billy Ray Cyrus, to whom she was married from 1992 to 2022. She wed actor Dominic Purcell, best known for his portrayal of Lincoln Burrows on “Prison Break,” in 2023.

As for Billy Ray Cyrus, he and model Elizabeth Hurley hard-launched their relationship on social media in April.

Previously, Cyrus-Purcell opened up about her children’s respective romances in the June 12 episode of the “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast, which she co-hosts with daughter Brandi Cyrus.

In it, she acknowledged that her daughters are “in such super healthy, amazing relationships,” before noting: “I think that they have been much more cautious in love than I was, and taken longer to make sure it’s the right person.”

Speaking to The Cut, Brandi Cyrus noted that her mother’s perspective on intimate relationships “has evolved” with time, after which Miley Cyrus added: “That’s because she found someone that is hot and respects her. That’s always the goal.”
