In this modern age of reboots, why not revisit a certain Emmy-winning mockumentary?
Ariel Winter recently opened up about possibly returning to Modern Family if ABC’s hit comedy series were to ever kickstart once again.
“I’d definitely be open to it,” Winter, 27, told E! in an interview published Tuesday, Sept. 2. “But that’s not up to me. That’s up to the powers that be. If they want to hit me up, they can hit me up.”
Winter played the intellectual middle child Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, which aired on ABC from 2009 to 2020.
It’s hard to believe five years have passed since the Dunphy-Pritchett clan took its bow on network television. In her new interview with E!, Winter also shared about what she’d like to see happen to her standout character — who accepts a research position in Switzerland during the series finale.
“Alex had so many different interests,” Winter said. “They were all extremely educational, smart and amazing interests. But I would hope that she has expanded her life in so many ways that I know she could have.”
Winter continued, “I hope now that she’s found herself totally in the way that she would want to, and put some effort into finding her heart and what she loves personally, because she’s already achieved so much professionally.”
The Sofia the First performer also noted that she believes Alex could have afforded “a more flourishing life.”
“She definitely could have branched out in so many more areas and still have the career and stuff that she had,” Winter told E!.
Created by Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, Modern Family won a 22 Primetime Emmy Awards during its epic run on the small screen, including five for Outstanding Comedy Series and individual honors for Eric Stonestreet (who played Mitchell’s husband Cam), Ty Burrell (who portrayed Claire’s fun-loving hubby Phil) and Julie Bowen (Claire).
