Acclaimed comedian Jorma Taccone recently opened up about his 20-foot fall from a ladder that turned out to be near-fatal. The SNL star opened up about this on The Lonely Island & Seth Meyers Podcast. It was released on September 2, 2025. Here’s what happened to the comedian.
SNL alum Jorma Taccone reveals his scary falling accident
Jorma Taccone was a part of Andy Samberg’s The Lonely Island comedy trio. He revealed that this summer, he fell from a ladder and shattered his pelvis and suffered a detached sacrum.
Speaking about this on the podcast, the comedian said, “One of the projects I wanted to do this summer was I wanted to build… there’s a barn, and the back half of the barn has this big white wall,” he continued, “I was like, this is great, we can do a big mural…I was painting this barn, and as a final touch, I was like, I should hang these lights that will go around the eve of the barn to highlight the barn…I was doing that on the day.”
But he had borrowed a ladder whose legs were “not good,” and it ultimately led to a tumble that caused a near-fatal fall. “In this moment, my life flashes before my eyes, I’m like, Oh no, I’ve got to get off this ladder.” He said, “I had enough time as I’m falling to be like, I’m going to die.”
He continued, “I drop, I look over, I see the yard, I’m like, This is going to hurt a lot…I fall straight on my butt, taking all of the impact on my butt. Then I do a lot of screaming and cursing.” He added, “Keep in mind, it’s my daughter’s fifth birthday party, so it wasn’t the coolest way to start the day.”
Doctors told him that he would need over half a year to recover from the fall. But the encouraging update was that he would be able to walk within three to six months.
