Not everyone is excited about Sydney Sweeney’s new romance with Scooter Braun. A source tells Star that friends fear the match has “disaster” written all over it.
Sweeney is brushing off the criticism, says the source, but those close to her are worried she is ignoring Braun’s controversial past.
“Sydney’s saying it’s nobody’s concern, she’s having fun and people have got it wrong because Scooter’s a cool, chilled out guy,” says the source. “But friends say he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing and you only have to look at his past to see that.”
The source points to celebrities like Taylor Swift, who publicly criticized Braun over the years.
“Some say he should be avoided with a 10-foot pole,” warns the source. “Sydney has every right to see who she wants … but this has all the earmarks of disaster in the making.”

Braun has been one of the most divisive figures in music for years, according to a profile in Culted. In 2019, he purchased Big Machine Label Group, the label that owned the masters to much of Swift’s early catalog — sparking a public feud that Swift herself called “tyrannical control.”
She accused Braun of trying to block her from performing her own music at the 2019 AMAs, a claim that fueled outrage from Swift’s fan base.
Former client Todrick Hall also blasted Braun on Twitter, calling him “an evil person whose only concern is his wealth and feeding his disgusting ego.”
Although stars like Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber defended Braun, the controversy cemented his reputation as one of the industry’s most polarizing power players.
“Scooter has such a bad reputation,” the source tells Star, “and the feeling is Sydney could do much better.”
Star exclusively broke the news that Sweeney and Braun were dating on August 29.
