Texas country chart-topper Flatland Cavalry will headline Texas Tech’s 2025 Homecoming Concert – a free event Oct. 10 on the university campus.

The band has strong Texas Tech ties and will be part of an evening lineup also featuring the annual homecoming parade, bonfire and celebration in Urbanovsky Park, according a news release from the university and schedule of homecoming events.

Texas Tech will celebrate homecoming all week, starting with a kickoff event Monday, Oct. 6 and wrapping up when the Red Raiders take on the Kansas Jayhawks Saturday, Oct. 11 at Jones AT&T Stadium. A full lineup of homecoming events is available online through Texas Tech’s website.

Flatland Cavalry and Texas Tech

Not only are four of the six band members Texas Tech alumni, but the group actually formed in 2014 while they were students. It’s a history referenced in the song, “Three Car Garage,” from its 2024 album “Flatland Forever.”

“We are thrilled to bring home Flatland Cavalry as our headliner for the 2025 Homecoming Concert,” said Blayne Beal, senior executive director of presidential events. “The band’s style of music and popularity will make this a memorable night for Red Raiders converging on campus for our Homecoming Celebration. There is no better on-campus football environment in the country, and this Homecoming celebration will make the entire weekend really special.”

Flatland Cavalry comprises former Red Raiders Cleto Cordero (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jason Albers (drums, percussion), Reid Dillon (electric guitar) and Adam Gallegos (piano, organ, keys, mandolin, banjo), as well as Jonathan Saenz (bass) and Wesley Hall (fiddle).

The past year has been full of milestones for the Texas- and Nashville-based band. They earned their second Academy of Country Music Award nomination for Group of the Year, achieved their first Recording Industry Association of America Gold certification for their breakout single “A Life Where We Work Out,” and made their mark in film and television with contributions to the “Twisters” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” soundtracks, as well as featured placements on “Yellowstone” and “Landman.”

Flatland Cavalry has racked up seven No. 1 singles on Texas Country Radio and amassed more than 500 million streams. Along the way, they’ve shared the stage with Willie Nelson, Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Jordan Davis, Midland (Texas Tech’s 2024 Homecoming headliner) and more – proving that their brand of storytelling and musicianship resonates far beyond their roots.

The traditional Homecoming parade begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 10. It will travel from the First Baptist Church parking lot down Broadway onto campus and end at the United Supermarkets Arena. The pep rally begins at 7:30 p.m. at the main concert stage in Urbanovsky Park, just east of the arena. The bonfire and concert will follow immediately after, allowing attendees to participate in all events without changing locations.

Alumni, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. The concert is free, and free parking will be available west of the arena. Food trucks will be on site, and a clear-bag policy will be in effect.

Co-branded Texas Tech and Flatland Cavalry T-shirts will be available for sale; this marks the first time the university has ever co-branded with a musical artist. The shirts, which cost $35 each, can be purchased online and at the show.

While in town for Homecoming, Flatland Cavalry will also be inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame and celebrated as the focus of a new Texas Tech documentary, “Flatland Forever: A Texas Tech Story.”
