Ken Jennings is giving fans a look into his world on Jeopardy!, and we’re getting some behind-the-scenes secrets we never would have expected.
Ever since Ken took over as the official host of Jeopardy! in 2022, viewers love getting details on what it’s like to film the long-running quiz show. Well, folks got a surprise look at what it takes for the TV personality to look good on camera, thanks to an unexpected sneak peek into his dressing room on September 2.
As the show’s official Instagram posted a video of him outside of his backstage area, Ken didn’t just want to make the clip a typical moment of seeing him get ready for work. He wanted to give viewers some secrets about a key element in his on-set wardrobe that some may possibly overlook.
“Hey, I’m Ken Jennings and this is my crib,” he told the camera in the clip. “Come on in, I’m gonna take you on a tie tour.”
As viewers see Ken standing in front of a plethora of hangers and ties, he revealed that Jeopardy! head costumer Steven Zimbelman curated over 200 ties for Ken to wear over the course of his time on the show. But he also noted a really special way he and Steven nod to late host Alex Trebek (who died in 2020 from pancreatic cancer at age 80) by recirculating some of the ties he actually wore on camera, too.
“We’ve got about 220 here,” he added. “We couldn’t do it without the Tie Bible. We put all the ties in a scanner, so we have reference here of what’s in the mix…. We have a bunch of old Tupperwares full of Alex Trebek era ties. So, we’ll pull out one of those. And all the ties have a little code, and the Alex ones start an ‘AT.’ So, I can look at the tag and I see ‘AT,’ that’s a game-worn Alex Trebek tie. That’s very special.”
When fans realized this unique secret Ken revealed about his Jeopardy! wardrobe, they were absolutely stunned by how much detail goes into looking great for the cameras.
“This is the best thing Jeopardy has ever posted!!” one person wrote in the comments. “Love it. Great looking ties especially the AT ones!” another complimented. “What tie will Ken wear? We get to guess every weekday! ❤️,” a different follower added.
So, what tie will Ken wear when new episodes of Jeopardy! begin on Monday, September 8, 2025? Looks like we’ll have to wait and find out!
