“Building the Band” winners are officially kicking off their girl group era.
Months after coming in first place in the Netflix singing competition show, female group 3Quency — consisting of Brianna Mazzola, Nori Moore and Wennely Quezada — released their debut single, “Top Down,” along with its accompanying music video.
The song comes after the trio signed to Records/Columbia Records, and now they feel ready to take over the music space.
The infectious R&B track is produced by Tommy Brown, known for his work with Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd.
“Working with Tommy Brown and his camp is such a blessing. He has curated a space where creatives can be who they really are. No restrictions, no rules, just having fun creating open and honest conversations that blossom into songs,” Brianna said in a statement to TODAY.com. “His ear and musical mind are so rare to come by and he’s a dream to work with. We love our fam at Champagne Therapy Music!”
Quezada added that signing their record deal “was an achievement and dream that all three of us have worked really hard for. We’re so excited for this journey and are feeling so blessed that we got this opportunity and we’re excited for you guys to be a part of it!”
The song and music video showcase the singers’ unique personalities and talents, which prove that they made the right choice when forming their group blindly on “Building the Band.”
Reflecting on filming the video, directed by Ava Rikki, Moore said, “We definitely had a time when we were filming the music video for ‘Top Down’! It’s always fun to finally see our ideas visually coming together. We’ve pushed & worked so hard. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
“Building the Band” was released on July 9 and was hosted by Backstreet Boy AJ McLean. Nicole Scherzinger served as a mentor to the six groups and was a judge alongside the late Liam Payne and Kelly Rowland.
In the finale, 3Quency faced off against mixed group SZN4, with the trio ultimately taking home the $500,000 prize.
