SWANSEA — The SouthCoast has been anxiously waiting since what seems like the Middle Ages for the debut of Swansea’s massive fortress of family fun.
Route 6 passersby have watched Silver Stone Castle and Family Entertainment take shape slowly, stone by stone and turret by turret, as hype built via social media over the past six years.
Since acquiring the 358 G.A.R. Highway property in April 2019 — with an initial target opening date of July 2020 — the project has been plagued by “setback after setback,” according to owner Joe Estrela.
But now there is finally a light at the end of the drawbridge, as the 87,000-square-foot, medieval-themed entertainment complex summons the public to its official grand opening this fall.
When can we visit Silver Stone Castle?
“Let the fun commence” on Thursday, Nov. 20, Silver Stone announced in a Facebook post Friday morning, Sept. 5.
“The journey has definitely been a long and arduous one, but we are here today with cause to celebrate!” the post reads.
Ealier this week, the Silver Stone owner teased the “announcement we have all been waiting for” on its Facebook page, which elicited a mix of excitement and skepticism following years of online buzz coupled with project delays.
Silver Stone has offered small glimpses of its progress via Facebook throughout various stages of construction, gift cards were sold this past Christmas, and an initial round of interviews conducted this time last year, in anticipation of an earlier debut.
Estrela expressed his gratitude for the public’s patience throughout the process.
“We can’t begin to thank each and every one of you enough who have kept faith in us and believed in our journey and purpose. This certainly has been no easy task,” the Sept. 5 post reads. “To the townspeople, applicants and those of our neighboring communities that have shared in our excitement all along, your unwavering support is what has kept us going through it all!”
What to expect at Silver Stone Castle
The castle — now guarded by a towering knight near the gate and a giant dragon indoors — will offer “a bit of something for everyone,” Silver Stone states.
Venue highlights include a billiard room, arcade, rock-climbing wall, Game Play Indoor Go Karts, a kids play area/ jungle gym, an indoor, heated resort-style swimming pool, two stages for live entertainment, and a virtual reality room that is still in progress.
Looking for a unique place to host your kids’ next birthday party? Silver Stone has you covered with six party rooms, including two specialty themed rooms — The Swordsman, and The Throne Room — as well as a quick-serve concession stand and full-service Tavern restaurant, serving American and Portuguese fare.
The indoor “eatertainment” facility will be a longtime dream realized for Estrela, who’s previously stated that a vacation to a former castle in Ireland served as inspiration for the venue’s theme.
Gift cards and job applicants
Those who have been waiting to cash in Silver Stone gift cards purchased last year can finally mark their calendars for Nov. 20, 2025.
Another round of hiring for the Silver Stone team is currently underway. According to the Facebook post, applicants should expect to be contacted within the next few weeks if they haven’t yet.
