ART

Fort Smith exhibitions

“Journey to the Unknown,” portraits and mixed media works by Oluwatobi Adewumi, and “Kaleidoscope,” decorative fabric works by the late Liz Whitney Quisgard, open with a 5-7 p.m. reception Friday at the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum, 1601 Rogers Ave., Fort Smith.

Adewumi, a native of Nigeria now residing in McNeil and winner of the 2024 RAM Annual Invitational, explains that his works “(explore) the layered complexities of migration, identity and belonging. Blending realism with abstraction, (the exhibition) reflects on the emotional and psychological landscapes that immigrants carry with them — from memory and cultural heritage to struggle and resilience.”

Quisgard (1929-2024) created kaleidoscopic patterns from yarn and buckram, inspired by Classical and Byzantine architecture.

The exhibitions remain up through Jan. 11. Hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday–Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission to the reception and the museum is free. Call (479) 784-2787 or visit fsram.org.
