Sydney Sweeney debuted one of the most-talked about commercials in all of advertising this year, and she’s set to do it again with a new ad-campaign.
The actress was the star of American Eagle’s commercials for women’s jeans, and the campaign went viral – but not only because of Sweeney’s star power. Critics of the ads pointed to the “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” tagline.
The slogan focuses on the similarities between “genes” and “jeans,” with Sweeney noting that the former can determine “hair color, personality and even eye color.” Many fans enjoyed seeing the actress in the commercials, but others criticized them for sinister undertones or ideologies.
Sweeney’s new ads are for another well-respected brand, and they’re drawing attention on social media once again.
What’s Next For Sydney Sweeney?
The “Euphoria” star has been named as one of the new faces of British fashion house Jimmy Choo. She’s featured prominently on the brand’s Instagram and other social media accounts this week, mostly in a ballet-themed ad campaign.
The actress wears a leotard and tall white boots as she reads from a book and poses for the camera. The commercials are clearly catering to a different audience than the American Eagle jeans, showing that Sweeney can be a marketing force for multiple products.
Sweeney wears the $1,800 buttermilk leather Hart Knee Boot 85 boots in the ad – a long way from the jeans you’re likely to find in your local mall.
“The Autumn 2025 campaign is a modern fable of feminine expression; a celebration of the transformative power shoes and accessories possess,” Choo said in the caption for Sweeney’s announcement on Instagram.
“We can play the role of whoever we want to be. ” Sweeney takes on various roles in the spot – ballet dancer, businesswoman, actress – all while wearing the brand’s new fall collection.
How Did Stars React To the American Eagle Ads?
Some of the backlash to Sweeney’s previous ad campaign came from elsewhere in the entertainment world. Rapper Doja Cat mocked the commercials in a TikTok, and the impact or meaning of the commercials has been endlessly discussed by podcasts and video essayists.
Other stars in the public eye have come to Sweeney’s defense, like former race car driver Danica Patrick. Patrick, who was seen in a similar light to Sweeney after her infamous GoDaddy.com ads in the 2000s, came out in support of the young actress.
“Can anyone tell me what’s wrong with the new AE ads? Very confused,” Patrick said, unsure of the reason behind the backlash.
Sweeney is set to take on the role of women’s boxing legend Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. The film will chronicle Martin’s rise to prominence in the sport, and it will also cover her tumultuous personal life outside of the ring.
Earlier this year, Sweeney posted photos of the physical transformation she underwent for the role, and the film is set to release at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend.
