Entertainer Gil Rosas will take the stage in a celebratory concert, Seven Decades of the Music of Gil Rosas, Pianist/Entertainer, 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Marjorie Luke Theatre, 721 E. Cota St., Santa Barbara.

Produced by Rod Lathim and sponsored by Stevens & Associates Insurance Agency, Inc., the event will showcase highlights from Rosas’ repertoire of some 1,000 songs.

The audience will hear classics from the Great American Songbook, featuring music by Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, and Rodgers and Hammerstein; as well as classical selections and surprise guests.

Rosas’ musical journey began at the age of 10 in Santa Barbara. By the time he was 17, he was the youngest musical director in the nation at KEYT-TV.

He went on to perform at local venues including the Somerset Restaurant and Olive Mill Bistro, where he played for stars like Donald O’Connor, Eleanor Powell, and Fred Astaire.

“This isn’t just a concert, it’s a love letter to the community that has supported Gil throughout his extraordinary life in music,” Lathim said.

Even now at 89, Rosas is known for his energetic playing, spontaneous song requests, and ability to engage any audience, Lathim said.

As Rosas says with a grin, “I never play the same thing the same way twice, and, I am proud that I still use all 88 keys.”

Tickets to hear Rosas are $28.50/general admission; $45/VIP seats and may be purchased at www.csasb.org/concerts. Tickets will also be available at the door.
