Fans of the hit crime drama S.W.A.T. are going wild after learning that two fan-favorite actors from the original series are officially reprising their roles for guest appearances in the premiere episode of the spinoff, S.W.A.T. Exiles.
On Sept. 8, it was announced that Jay Harrington, who plays David “Deacon” Kay, and Patrick St. Esprit, who plays Robert Hicks, will appear in the first episode of the upcoming spinoff series that stars Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson.
Fans immediately reacted to the big news with excitement and enthusiasm, with one declaring in response to a post from Deadline, “The old gang is back.”
Another fan joked, “SWAT got more lives than a black cat. My goodness lol.”
The responses continued, with fans writing things like, “Ohh we are so back,” “So happy!” and “Yes!!!!”

One major theme in the original S.W.A.T. show starring Moore, Harrington and St. Esprit is family, which is why fans are eager to see more familiar faces from the S.W.A.T. team return in the spinoff. With any luck, other cast members will also reprise their roles in some regard in Exiles.
As for what else fans know about Exiles so far, while there isn’t an official streaming platform or channel that the new show will air on yet, Sony Pictures Television has already ordered 10 episodes of the spinoff. The new show will focus on Moore’s character, Hondo, leading and training an “experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits,” according to the official logline.
Back in June, soon after S.W.A.T. was canceled and news of the spinoff was announced, Harrington shared his thoughts on everything happening with the franchise.
As for whether or not he expected there to be a spinoff, he said, “Because of the way things had happened over the years with [S.W.A.T.] being cancelled, coming back, I had the thought, ‘OK, we could come back.’ There’s a chance, you never say die, especially with the streaming world and such. My choices in my head were that, or it’s over. I did not have a spin-off on my bingo card, for sure.”
While fans are excited to learn that Harrington and St. Esprit are coming back for the Exiles premiere, there are likely hopes that, over time, they will return and play a bigger role in the new show.
