Sydney Sweeney talks about her transformation for Christy

Sydney Sweeney has gone to great lengths to portray the role of the legendary boxer Christy. The talented actress attended the film’s premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, commonly known as TIFF.

After the screening, Sydney Sweeney participated in a Q&A session where she answered several burning questions about Christy, her preparation, and how she got into the skin of the character. The Americana fame star confessed that she gained 30 pounds to play the role of Martin convincingly. Furthermore, she added that she feasted on a carb- and calorie-heavy diet in addition to the gruelling physical training.

In a video shared by the outlet Variety on its official X account, Sydney Sweeney speaks about her intense training sessions—three times a day for two to three months—to prepare for her role as Christy Martin.

Director David Michôd cheekily added that Sweeney ate a lot of Chick-fil-A, which she agreed to, confirming that her diet during the prep comprised “a lot of Smucker’s, a lot of milkshakes, a lot of protein shakes.”

However, she made a heartfelt confession that it was an incredible process to represent the iconic and powerful female boxer on the big screen.
