Al Roker got to surprise one fan this week when the weatherman’s cartoon made its big debut on PBS KIDS. The 71-year-old stars in the animated series called Weather Hunters, which helps teach children weather awareness, where he plays the patriarch of the Hunter family, aptly named Al.
Apparently Al’s likeness onscreen is so similar to his real life appearance, that Roker’s granddaughter immediately recognized him on screen. Fortunately, the proud grandfather’s daughter was video taping the moment the little girl saw her “pop pop” appear on screen, creating a cute moment that we’re sure the whole family is going to remember forever.
Al Roker’s Granddaughter Spotted Him on His New Show
Roker’s granddaughter Sky was sitting in her highchair watching television when a familiar face popped on screen. We don’t know if the little girl knew his face, or simply recognized his voice, but as soon as the cartoon dad appeared in the opening credits the little girl yelled out, “pop pop!”
Al’s daughter captured the moment and sent it to her father, who immediately shared it with his Instagram followers.
“Well, I know at least two people watched the premiere of our new @pbskids show @weatherhunters,” he joked in the video caption, which had thousands of likes in the first few hours after it was posted.
Fans React to Al Roker’s Adorable Granddaughter
People immediately started gushing over the touching moment, hopping into the comments to celebrate Roker’s new show, and what appears to be the first appearance of its number one fan.
“Omg I just melted.🥹🥹🥹🥰🥰🥰 Her Pop Pop. Same thing my Dad went by🙏🏾🕊️,” one person wrote.
“My son was watching it in the other room, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear a familiar voice,” another added. “Congratulations!”
While it seems like the comments were full of people gushing over Sky’s cute reaction, there were actually plenty of grownups who wanted to share their thoughts on the show. Apparently, it’s getting rave reviews from kids and adults alike, which means that Sky may have a few more opportunities to watch a cartoon version of her grandfather on television.
