Going to the movies is soon to feel a whole lot different in Parker.
But for now, the Douglas County town located southeast of Denver is without a large-scale movie theater to take in all the new hits. The nearest AMC theater is located on Parker Road north in Aurora.
However, after Sunday’s closure of the AMC Classic Twenty Mile 10 location, a luxury theater entertainment company is stepping in to renovate Parker’s two-decade old AMC theater.
On Tuesday, the theater doors read in paint “thank you for 20 years of movies.”
“AMC routinely reviews the theatres in our circuit, as well as opportunities outside of our circuit, and makes decisions based on what will best strengthen the company going forward,” an AMC spokesperson told Denver Gazette news partner 9NEWS on the Parker location closing.
“We thank our Twenty Mile 10 guests for their patronage and encourage them to continue enjoying the AMC experience at AMC Arapahoe Crossing 16,” the spokesperson said.
Emagine Entertainment has acquired the original Parker AMC, located at 18625 Stage Run Road, with a set goal date to open next spring. The building’s 2025 actual value is $5,228,854, according to the Douglas County Assessor.
In a news release Tuesday, Emagine officials said renovations expect to result in “a premium entertainment destination unlike anything currently available in the community.
The new theater will encompass 10 “state-of-the-art” screens, including two EMX auditoriums, within 32,000 square feet of space, according to the entertainment company.
Not to mention heated recliner seats.
Included in the renovation are Emagine’s “large-format theater” with “a massive screen, state-of-the-art 4K projection, and Dolby Atmos immersive audio for a deeply engaging movie experience,” officials said.
Emagine officials said its offerings in Parker will include a full bar with craft cocktails, beer and wine to drink while watching their film. That, of course, includes “enhanced concession” items from quesadillas, chicken fingers, pretzel bites and hot dogs, according to Emagine’s website.
The theater company operates 27 theaters across Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Some locations feature bowling, duckpin bowling and axe throwing.
This is Emagine’s first Colorado location.
“We are thrilled to bring the Emagine experience to Colorado,” Jon Goldstein, a partner of Emagine Entertainment, said in the statement. “Parker is a vibrant community, and we look forward to creating a gathering place where friends and families can enjoy movies, entertainment, and hospitality in a truly elevated way.”
