Lizzo and Kelly Clarkson are both extremely talented on their own, but together, they’re “Good as Hell.” The pair even proved it by singing the song of the same name while sharing a stage together recently for NBC’s Songs & Stories with Kelly Clarkson.
A video of the iconic duet was shared on TikTok, and it’s quickly gone viral with nearly a million views as fans of both performers weigh in on how great they sound together.
“Kelly is such a versatile singer and everything she sings she makes it better,” one fan weighed in.
Another wrote, “Okay we all know Kelly is that girl. But can we praise Lizzo here? She is so talented.”
Someone else shared, “their voices sound really nice together.”
Lizzo Explains the Origin of ‘Good As Hell’
A longer version of the video, where Clarkson asks Lizzo about the song, was shared on Monday, Sept. 8, on YouTube as well. In it, Clarkson called the song “so good” before asking Lizzo what the song means to her and whether she has to sing it to herself sometimes.
Lizzo admitted, “There was a year of my life where I cried every time I sang this song on stage because I needed it so bad.”
It turns out Lizzo didn’t even write this song as a message to herself. Instead, she wrote it for a friend, telling Clarkson, “If my friend was going through something, what would I tell her? You know what I mean? And then ‘Good as Hell’ happened.”
‘Good as Hell’ Isn’t a Number One Hit
One thing that might surprise Lizzo fans is that “Good as Hell” isn’t a number one hit, despite being one of her most famous songs. Instead, it’s been considered a sleeper hit that was released in March 2016 and didn’t see any real chart success until November 2019.
At that point, the song hit No. 3 on the Billboard Top 100 after she performed it on the MTV Video Music Awards that year. Then, after “Good as Hell” was featured in the Netflix hit Virgin River, it topped the Billboard Top TV Songs Chart in November 2020.
Lizzo recently addressed what it’s like being an artist of her caliber trying to get her songs to the top of the charts. It started off as a conversation about the “song of the summer” on TikTok, where she explained why it’s so hard to determine if there even is one this year.
“Back in the day, the music industry was very algorithmic,” Lizzo explained. “That industry was controlled to a certain extent. Now that we are in the digital streaming age, there is no control over the algorithm, and it is stressing people the f–k out… myself included.”

She continued, “This industry used to be based on serving the masses. Basically, like servicing your song out to certain channels and certain radio stations. The internet space wasn’t so congested; there was a clear channel back in the day for major artists to put their music out and serve the masses.”
Lizzo did make it clear that there is a song of the summer this year, at least in her opinion. In the caption of the video, she wrote, “The song of the summer is Whim Whammy btw.”
