Paul Mescal has only kind words to say to The Beatles’ Paul McCartney.
In a recent red carpet interview during the Toronto International Film Festival, Mescal had a quick conversation with Entertainment Tonight about his new film Hamnet and the upcoming four-part Beatles biopic that theactor will be starring in alongside George Harrison, Joseph Quinn and Barry Keoghan.
Directed by Sam Mendes, the Beatles biopic film series is still in its development stages and is set for a joint theatrical release in April 2028. Each film will focus on a single member of The Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr), providing their individual perspectives on the band’s story.
The 29-year-old actor admitted to ET that he hung out with McCartney recently, and called him “one of the greatest artists to ever do it” and said that he “fundamentally changed the world.”
Currently, Mescal is at the Toronto International Film Festival for his upcoming movie, Hamnet, which follows William Shakespeare and his wife, Agnes, who are celebrating the birth of their son, Hamnet. However, when tragedy strikes and Hamnet dies at a young age, it inspires Shakespeare to write his timeless masterpiece Hamlet.
“It was a crazy thing to say to go from Shakespeare to Paul McCartney. Kind of insane,” he said. “I don’t think you’ll ever be able to fully take that in.”
Mescal’s career took off in 2020 with Hulu’s Normal People, where his portrayal of Connell Waldron earned him widespread acclaim, a BAFTA TV Award and an Emmy nomination. Following his rise to fame, Mescal transitioned into film, starring in critically praised projects such as The Lost Daughter, God’s Creatures and Gladiator II. Known for his emotional depth and performances, Mescal has become one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood.
If his recent encounter with McCartney is any indication, fans can expect him to bring both reverence and a fresh perspective to the role of a music legend.
Mescal’s newest movie, Hamnet, made its North American premiere at TIFF on Tuesday, and it will be released in theaters on Nov. 27.
