Pop star Benson Boone has joined the list of singers who have left their boots by the bed and “ain’t leavin’ this room.”
The “Beautiful Things” singer brought his North American tour to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Sept. 9.
In the name of Music City, he covered a country music staple: Jason Isbell‘s 2013 song “Cover Me Up.”
Benson Boone is a showman, but he’s also a rousing singer with a multi-octave voice, which was on full display at the Aug. 22, 2025 tour opener in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The cover started with twangy acoustic guitar as Boone soulfully built momentum over the first verse and chorus.
“It’s cold in this house and I ain’t going out to chop wood / So cover me up and know you’re enough / To use me for good,” Boone sang.
The band layered under Boone’s voice as he soulfully belted out with rasp and vibrato, showcasing his country chops.
Benson Boone’s ‘Cover Me Up’ cover is Jason Isbell-approved
Isbell shared a video of the performance on his Instagram story, saying, “Ok I love it.”
The Isbell cover is Boone’s latest in his “American Heart” setlist, which has included covers of Coldplay’s “Sparks,” Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,” Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over,” Creedence Clearwater Revivals’ “Fortunate Son” and more.
Boone’s tour, which kicked off in August, follows the release of his sophomore record “American Heart.”
The 10-track record, which includes hits “Mystical Magical” and “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else,” saw Boone dive into a Bruce Springsteen and Americana-inspired musical style.
His tour in promotion of the album kicked off in August and will run through October in North America. Next, he’s headed to Europe, the U.K. and Ireland.
