Lainey Wilson revealed that her fiancé, Devlin “Duck” Hodges, stopped her from making a major splurge on this surprising item.
During an interview with “Taste of Country Nights with Evan Paul,” Wilson, 33, recalled how she always wanted a jet ski. However, Hodges, 29, put a quick stop to her actually going through with buying one.
“Me and Duck were actually at a place called Moby Dicky’s, which is our favorite restaurant ever,” she said of the waterside spot, which happens to be where the couple had their first date. “I saw somebody drive up on a jet ski, and I was like, ‘We gon’ get a jet ski, today, we gettin’ a jet ski.”
Despite initially seeming motivated to make the purchase, she said, “By the time I finished the beer, [Duck] had already talked me out of it.”
“I was ready to do something crazy; I was ready to get a turquoise jet ski,” Wilson said before noting that Hodges had a valid concern. “He was like, ‘You’re not gonna be here to ride it!’ Anyway, long story short, I thought about it but it didn’t happen.”

On Tuesday, September 9, Wilson shared even more insight about Hodges’ spending habits while speaking to Taste of County. “I’ll tell ya this about Duck, he’s pretty frugal,” she said. “Except when it comes to good hunting stuff, like getting ready for duck season and having all the appropriate gear and whatever — that’s his thing he likes to splurge on.”
“I’m not gonna tell him what to do, because he’s not gonna tell me what kind of guitar I can buy, ya know?” Wilson added.
The couple started dating in 2021, while they made their red carpet debut in May 2023 at the 2023 ACM Awards. Wilson and Hodges later announced their engagement in February.
The couple is clearly in love, and Wilson previously shared her and Hodges’ secret to their strong relationship. “You have to definitely carve out the time,” she told People at the time. “It has to be something that you’re very aware of, and you’re like, ‘Okay, I’ve got a day off here in 10 days. I’ve got to dedicate that day to spend time with my person.’”
