A resurfaced moment from last year’s “MTV Video Music Awards” is gaining attention online as fans recall Taylor Swift’s words of remembrance on a solemn day in New York City.
During the 2024 VMAs, held on Sept. 11 at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, Swift joined Post Malone on stage to accept the award for Best Collaboration for their song “Fortnight,” the first track on Swift’s 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department.
While celebrating the win, she paused to acknowledge the anniversary of 9/11, offering a heartfelt tribute to the lives lost and the resilience of the city.
“Waking up this morning in New York, on September 11th, I’ve just been thinking about what happened 23 years ago. Everyone who lost a loved one and everyone that we lost. That is the most important thing today,” the 35-year-old singer started off her speech. “Everything that happens tonight is behind that.”

She then continued her speech, thanking her team and everyone who helped her and Post Malone create the song and its music video.
