Speaking to Soap Opera Digest, Jason Thompson explained that Billy’s greatest strength and weakness is his belief that he can juggle everything at once. “That’s probably Billy’s biggest crutch, but also his superpower, that he believes that he’s capable of doing everything at once,” Thompson said. He added that Billy often takes on too much, making himself “his biggest enemy” by losing focus.
Billy placed Sally in charge of Abbott Communications while he turned his attention toward reclaiming Chancellor. Thompson noted, “I think he really does believe in Sally. And I think that he really does love Sally. But I am not sure that there’s any relationship in his life right now that is more important than what he has his eyes set on, and that’s getting back Chancellor and ultimately knocking over Victor.” He noted that Billy is juggling Jack, funding, Sally’s company launch, and his personal life.
Thompson acknowledged the strain these overlapping priorities put on Billy and Sally’s relationship. “There’s so many moving parts in this,” he said, emphasizing that Billy still “really does want to do right by Sally.” However, he described the situation as “an up-and-down thing,” suggesting that Billy’s shifting focus raises “a lot of questions” about what truly matters to him.
From Sally’s perspective, the dynamic may reach a breaking point. Thompson agreed that if Sally feels sidelined, she won’t hesitate to confront it. “She’s going to probably ask herself the question, too, ‘Why do I always end up with these guys that can’t really follow through or don’t put me first?’” he explained. Thompson concluded that such questions are natural for Sally to ask as their future together remains uncertain.
