In an interview, Chloe Fineman recently shared her SNL experiences, discussing a variety of topics such as her rejected sketch ideas, memorable moments, close friendships, and her overall journey throughout the seasons. For context, she joined the sketch comedy series in 2019 as a featured player in Season 45, and two years later, she was promoted to repertory status. As she prepares for SNL Season 51, she reflects on her journey with the show in a compelling way.

Chloe Fineman says SNL is ‘like a Buddhist exercise’

Chloe Fineman recently reflected on her experience at SNL and shared the biggest lesson she’s learned from her time on the show.

In an interview with Bustle, she said, “It’s this weird show where every Monday, you get to start over. There’s something really Zen about it. It’s like a Buddhist exercise: You do this thing, and then it’s all forgotten.”

She mentioned that the show is an inspiring place where people get to learn and reinvent themselves, further sharing an example of a colleague she really looks up to. “The people who [whom] I look up to on the show are always reinventing themselves. I remember the year when Cecily Strong got really into slapstick and was doing all this physical comedy. You don’t have to know it all. But SNL is a special place that really allows you to learn and challenge yourself,” she added.

Furthermore, she reflected on her SNL memories, revealing that her favorite one is of Billy Crystal, whom she asked to sign her wall. Detailing the memory, she said, “I was going into my dressing room, and Billy Crystal was just at my door. He was like, ‘I used to live here,’ in that very twinkly-eyed Billy Crystal way. Something came over me, and I was like, ‘Can you sign my wall?’ So I have this amazing signature of Billy Crystal that says, ‘I used to live here.’” Another fond memory she recalls is of asking Kristen Wiig to sign when they shared a room.
