Comedian Nate Bargatze is set to host the 77th Emmy Awards, airing live on CBS on September 14, but you might not know as much about the star as you might think.
The announcement follows his 2024 CBS holiday special and marks his biggest network appearance to date.
“It’s a huge honor to be asked to host such an iconic awards show,” Bargatze, who is set to share the stage with Stephen Colbert, said in a statement released through CBS.
“I’m beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world.”
Television Academy chair Cris Abrego praised the selection, calling Bargatze “one of the hottest comics in the business” with a style that “resonates with multigenerational audiences.”
In addition to his specials, Bargatze appeared as host of Saturday Night Live in October 2023 and again in 2024.
His George Washington skit from his SNL debut went viral. He credits SNL’s creator for helping push his career further.
“SNL’s really done a lot of stuff for me,” he told People in February. “I owe a lot of this to SNL, and Lorne [Michaels]… it shows you they’re always looking.”
He also co-hosts the Nateland podcast with Brian Bates, Dusty Slay, and Aaron Weber. The podcast has featured guests like Leanne Morgan and John Crist.
