The 77th annual Emmy Awards are happening tonight, and a Syracuse native is up for one of the prestigious awards.

Carina Sposato, a Manlius Pebble Hill School class of 2008 graduate, is nominated for her work on the hit Netflix limited series, “Adolescence.”

The show has been nominated in the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category for 2025. Sposato served as co-executive producer on the four-episode psychological drama released in March. She shares this nomination with 13 others on the production side, including Emmy and Oscar-winning actor and producer Brad Pitt and SAG-award-winning British actor Stephen Graham, who also starred in the series.

This is Sposato’s first Emmy nomination. Her mother, Joanna, who still resides in Syracuse, told syracuse.com on Saturday how excited she is about her daughter’s nomination: “I’m just thrilled for her. She’s a hard worker and I’m just very, very proud.”

The series, set in West Yorkshire, England, follows the arrest of a 13-year-old boy, Jamie Miller (played by newcomer teen actor Owen Cooper), who is accused of murdering his classmate. The gripping crime drama received immense praise upon its release. Per Netflix’s Tudum, it is the second most-watched show globally, with over 142.6 million views within its first 91 days on the platform.

In addition to “Adolescence,” “Black Mirror,” “Dying for Sex,” “Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story,” and “The Penguin” have also been nominated in the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category.

Sposato, who now lives in California, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Film Studies from Yale University before starting her career in the entertainment industry. She is currently the Head of Television at Department M, an independent production studio founded by Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer. Previously, she was a producer at Plan B Entertainment for over three years, which is where she worked on “Adolescence.”

The 77th Emmy Awards are live tonight, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. The star-studded ceremony, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, will also be available to stream live or watch anytime on Paramount+. You can sign up for a 7-day free trial here, but until Sept. 18, new subscribers can score an annual plan for $30 a year, which breaks down to $2.50 a month.
