On most evenings when I’m trying to unwind, watching a good movie is at the top of my list. My Letterboxd account is filled with real-life documentation of my attempts to watch something good, bad, or extremely average. While I’m usually successful in finding something that interests and entertains me, scouring through all the options is not for the faint of heart—especially when you’re committing to a 90-minute film. But after a long and binge-worthy summer, I’ve finally compiled a list of five movies I’m recommending to everyone this fall. Whether you’re a horror movie fanatic or prefer something lighthearted, this list has something for everyone.
1. Borderline
I don’t know about you, but comedic thrillers are at the top of my list of favorite movie genres. Borderline stars Ray Nicholson playing a sociopathic romantic who, upon escaping from prison, breaks into the home of his favorite ‘90s popstar, played by Samara Weaving. Nicholson puts Weaving through a series of trials and tribulations—and although he wants to be loved by her, she’s just trying to survive. If you’re not a huge fan of horror movies but still enjoy being on edge, Borderline deserves a spot on your fall watchlist.

2. Friendship
Despite its name, this one might leave you feeling unsettled in the best way possible. Friendship follows Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd as they meet and become close acquaintances. But what starts as friendship soon becomes an unexpected obsession, and the more Rudd pulls away, the more Robinson keeps reaching. You won’t want to miss this one!

3. Bob Trevino Likes It
For those who prefer a heartwarming story, this one’s for you. Bob Trevino Likes It is a story about friendship, connection, and chosen family. When Lily Trevino—played by Euphoria’s Barbie Ferreira—connects with an online stranger with the same name as her toxic, estranged father, she wonders if it might be him. But after her friend request is accepted, what grows is an unlikely friendship that might just save her life.

4 . Weapons
You’ve probably heard about Weapons more times than you can count, and for good reason. Weapons is a story about one mysterious night where children from the same classroom all leave the house at the exact same time—and never return. Although the local community is determined to blame their teacher, what comes to be is a much more sinister and powerful entity that can’t be escaped.

5. Turtles All the Way Down
Another lighthearted—yet serious—film to enjoy this fall? Turtles All the Way Down. Originally a novel by John Green, Turtles All the Way Down follows Aza, a high school-aged girl who struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Throughout the story, Aza learns more about her condition, how to manage it, and what it means to fall in love despite the many hardships life can throw at you.
