Despite winning her first Emmy, Beyoncé was a ceremony no-show

Beyoncé Bowl was nominated at Sunday’s Primetime Emmys in the Best Variety Special (Live) category, with Queen Bey recognized as an executive producer and performer. But did she actually show up to CBS’ three-hour broadcast?

Beyoncé decided against spending the night with the likes of Noah Wyle, Quinta Brunson, and Adam Scott. She also didn’t appear last week at the Creative Arts Emmys when Beyoncé Bowl received a juried Emmy Award for Best Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Programming. Credited as Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, she won alongside fellow costumers Shiona Turini, Erica Rice, Molly Peters, Chelsea Staebell, and Timothy White.

Thanks to her costume Emmy victory, the superstar is now an Oscar and a Tony away from an EGOT. Beyoncé already has a whopping 35 Grammys (the most ever for an artist). She received a Best Song Oscar nomination for King Richard (2021), but has yet to be in contention for the Tonys.

While Beyoncé has never appeared at an Emmy ceremony, she has performed multiple times at the Oscars. She belted out “Be Alive” in 2022; “Love You I Do,” “Listen,” and “Patience” in 2007; and “Look to Your Path,” “Learn to Be Lonely,” and “Believe” in 2005.

Beyoncé Bowl was Netflix’s special hometown halftime show that streamed from Houston on NFL Christmas Gameday. She performed 12 minutes of songs, mostly from her Cowboy Carter album. The project brought in more than 27 million views for the streaming service.

It received three competitive Emmy bids at last week’s Creative Arts, losing Best Production Design to the Oscars, Best Choreography to the Grammys, and Best Directing (for Beyoncé and Alex Rudzinski) to SNL50: The Anniversary Special.

At Sunday’s Primetime ceremony, Beyoncé’s co-nominees for Best Variety Special (Live) were The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar, the Oscars, SNL50: The Anniversary Special, and the ultimate winner, SNL50: The Homecoming Concert.
