Colbert took the stage to accept his Primetime Emmy Award for The Late Show, receiving a long ovation from the crowd.

As he began his acceptance speech, he jokingly asked, “While I have your attention, is anyone hiring?” He added, “’Cause I’ve got 200 very well-qualified candidates with me here tonight who’ll be available in June. I also brought my own resume with me tonight.”

Later, the television host expressed gratitude for his time at CBS and hoped that the late-night tradition would continue after his show ends next year. He said, “I want to thank CBS for giving us the privilege of being part of the late-night tradition, which I hope continues long after we’re no longer doing this show.” Ending his speech on a positive note, he said, “If the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor.”

In July 2025, CBS addressed the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in a statement. It read, “This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content, or other matters happening at Paramount.” The cancellation raised eyebrows, as it came shortly after Paramount settled a lawsuit filed by President Trump (via celebrity.land).
