Sofía Vergara had to cancel plans to join her fellow Hollywood stars at the 2025 Emmy Awards after a health scare landed her in the emergency room.
“Didn’t make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER,” the Modern Family alum, 53, captioned her Sunday, September 14, Instagram post. “Sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye [allergy] right before getting in the car!”
Sofía shared a photo of her swollen eye that was more than halfway shut. She also included a video of her lying on a hospital bed, sulking in her untimely health flare. However, she attempted to relieve her pain and swelling by holding her eye under running water.
Friends and fans of the Griselda actress sent her messages of healing and warm wishes in the comments section of the post.
“Oh no! Get well soon!” Sofía’s fellow America’s Got Talent star Terry Crews wrote.
DJ Diplo echoed Terry’s message, while Snoop Dogg left a hand prayer emoji.
“Awww blessed. Hope your little eye gets better,” a fan commented. “Yes he looks pretty inflamed. To the orders if it doesn’t get better.”
Although Sofía wasn’t nominated for an Emmy award this year, she was set to present an award to a fellow actor. One day before her scheduled appearance at the Emmys, Sofía was living her best life in Las Vegas while watching the Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez boxing match.
Sofía was nominated for four Emmy awards in the category Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in Modern Family between 2010 and 2013. She was most recently recognized and nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her portrayal of late Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in 2024. Sofía’s nomination made history as she was the first Latina to be nominated in the category.
“It was a surprise for me to be nominated,” the Soul Plane star told E! News on the red carpet at the event. “It was my first time acting in a drama, acting in Spanish believe it or not. It was like a surprise — and a good surprise.”
