Director Shawn Levy has revealed the first look at “Star Wars: Starfighter,” a spinoff in the space opera series starring Ryan Gosling and newcomer Flynn Gray. In the behind-the-scenes shot, Gosling and Gray’s characters are wearing battered clothing while adrift on some sort of water craft. This oceanic location is a shift from prior “Star Wars” adventures, set mostly across the galaxy on desert planets like Tatooine and Jakku.
Plot details are unclear but Lucasfilm previously confirmed that “Starfighter” will be an “entirely original story set in a period of time never before explored in ‘Star Wars.‘” The standalone film, which focuses on new characters in the sci-fi universe, is reportedly set about five years after the events of 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” which ends with a victory for the Resistance.
