With all eyes on President Donald Trump as he continues his visit to the UK, there are signs of a new friendship being forged.
Unlike the late Queen Elizabeth II’s relationship with the US President, King Charles appears to be building ‘a close rapport’ and ‘signs of warmth’ with the US leader. Trump, who has previously struck up a favorable relationship with Prince William during their meeting in Paris last year, has been pictured laughing and joking with the British monarch.
A body language expert has now decoded the gestures between the two senior figures as he notes ‘genuine warmth’ from the US President to the head of the royal family, which follows after a day of relationship building in Windsor.
Body language expert Darren Stanton said, “So first of all, Trump’s hand on Charles’s arm. Now, sometimes that kind of double-handed gesture can be used as a power move, a way of signalling dominance.
“But here, that’s not what’s going on. The handshake itself is equal, the grip looks balanced, and there are no other accompanying power signals. In this context, it reads much more as a gesture of warmth. It is a sign of rapport and friendliness, rather than control.
“In terms of Charles’ comfort level, he looks at ease. There’s no pulling back, no tightening of the lips or shoulders, and his eye contact is steady. If he were uncomfortable, we’d expect to see him lean away or disengage, but instead he’s fully engaged in the moment, which suggests he’s comfortable with the interaction.
“Now, Melania’s body language is quite telling. She holds herself with poise, calm and composed, not fading into the background but also not seeking the spotlight. Her posture suggests she’s comfortable in her role here, present, supportive, and content to let the focus rest on the handshake.”

Even though Melania isn’t directly part of the handshake, her positioning makes it clear she’s part of the interaction. That kind of alignment adds to the overall impression of authenticity.
“So, altogether, it comes across as a genuine, respectful moment. Trump showing a softer, more cordial style of greeting, Charles clearly at ease, and Melania grounding the scene with quiet composure.”
The visit from the Trumps is historic and only the second time he’s made an official state visit to the UK, this time choosing to spend much time with the Royal family. As part of his visit, Trump received a military guard of honor and mounted troops upon his Windsor arrival, after spending the night at the U.S. ambassador’s residence in London.
