Vice President JD Vance said a fellow Republican will take over as ABC’s late-night talk show host after Jimmy Kimmel’s show was suspended indefinitely.
On X, Vance joked that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio would replace Kimmel.
“Everyone please congratulate @marcorubio, the new host of ABC’s late night show!” Vance posted on Thursday, Sept. 18.
A spokesperson for ABC said on Sept. 17 the Walt Disney-owned network would stop airing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” following Kimmel’s comments about the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, USA Today reported.
Vance was a longtime personal friend of Kirk’s, and hosted his podcast, “The Charlie Kirk Show” as a tribute on Sept. 15.
Rubio has juggled multiple jobs within the Trump administration. The former Florida senator also serves as national security adviser and head of the National Archives, and led the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Why was Jimmy Kimmel’s show canceled?
Brendan Carr, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, criticized Kimmel’s monologue about Kirk on right-wing commentator Benny Johnson’s YouTube show on Sept. 17.
Hours after the episode aired, Nexstar Media Group Inc., ABC and the Sinclair Broadcast Group said they would stop airing Kimmel’s late-night show.
Sinclair said it will replace Kimmel’s ABC timeslot on Sept. 19 with a TV special honoring Kirk.
