The remains found last week inside a Tesla registered to rising indie pop singer d4vd were identified as those of a 15-year-old girl who had gone missing over a year ago.
Officers found the teen’s body inside a Los Angeles tow yard last week after responding to a report of a “foul odor” coming from a vehicle. The victim was identified on Wednesday as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed.
Last week, ABC affiliate KABC-TV reported that the vehicle was an impounded Tesla registered to d4vd, real name David Anthony Burke.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office told KTLA that Hernandez had run away from home at least once before she was reported missing from Lake Elsinore in April 2024.
According to the outlet, police said the teen’s head and torso were found in a bag inside the front trunk of a Tesla that had been in the yard for five days.
Burke has not been charged with a crime at this time, but LAPD Detective Moses Castillo told the outlet that investigators would question the singer.
“He’s the registered owner of the vehicle. We need to know where he’s been, cellphone records, where he’s been all this time and connect the dots,” he explained.
A spokesperson representing Burke told Los Angeles’ KNBC that the singer is still out on tour, but “is fully cooperating with the authorities.”
Burke won two BMI Pop Awards in 2024 for the songs “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me.”
