The Commish is getting another promotion, and this time it’s to grandpop. Television’s Michael Chiklis is getting ready to become a first time grandfather. The Shield alum opened up about how he feels about the news while dropping by the set of Live with Kelly and Mark, where he made the most grandpa-like reveal ever, sharing just how emotional the prospect of watching his daughter become a mom has made him.
And while the news doesn’t exactly fall in line with the characters Chiklis so often plays on both the small and big screens, we’re absolutely loving the way he’s talking about this new bundle of joy headed his way.
Michael Chiklis Says He Cries In the Shower Now
Pregnancy hormones are known for doing some wild things to expectant parents, but they don’t have anything on the emotional upheaval that the 62-year-old Chiklis says he’s been feeling lately. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me, it’s broken me open like an egg. I cry in the shower,” he told the show’s hosts, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

“Everything they say about being a grandparent is true, I guess, because the kid’s not even here yet and I’m mental,” Chiklis joked. “And, I live in [an] estrogen house, so it only makes sense that we’re having a girl.”

Michael Chiklis is Turning to his Greek Roots
While we’ve seen the veteran actor answer to everything from Vic on the FX cop drama, to The Thing during his time as part of the Fantastic Four, the newest family member is going to call him something a little different.
“I’m Pappouli,” he told Ripa and Consuelos. “I’m a Greek, so Pappouli, and you know when the kids are babies, she’s going to call me ‘Poo Poo’ or something. It’s the greatest.”
Chiklis, who normally plays hardcases on screen, is fully prepared to let his softer side show once the new baby arrives, especially since there’s something he’s been missing since his two daughters—Odessa, 25 and Autumn, 31—have gotten older: cradling a newborn.
“I miss that, actually. Cause my kids are grown.”
Well, we can’t wait to see Chiklis in this new role. Given how emotional and excited he appears to be, we’re sure he’s going to absolutely knock this new job out of the park.
