Meghan Markle has faced criticism on social media after seemingly violating the Sandringham Summit agreement.
In 2020, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry declared they were stepping back as senior working royals – a decision unprecedented since King Edward VIII’s abdication in 1936.
The Sussexes revealed plans to pursue financial independence from the Royal Family while hoping to continue representing Harry’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, throughout the Commonwealth.
However, during a crisis meeting with the late Queen, the then Prince Charles and Prince William, it became clear this arrangement wouldn’t be permitted.
During this 90-minute summit, the couple managed to keep their His/Her Royal Highness titles but were prohibited from using them publicly.
Now, in recent years, the Duchess appears to have gone back on this agreement.
While no official laws were enacted during the Sandringham Summit, both Harry and Meghan publicly declared they would not use their HRH titles.
On their official website at the time, they stated: “As agreed and set out in January, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will retain their ‘HRH’ prefix, thereby formally remaining known as His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex and Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer actively use their HRH titles as they will no longer be working members of the family as of Spring 2020.”
One social media user shared the image and commented, “Meghan Markle proves yet again the distain she has for Queen Elizabeth by signing a note with an HRH, something she was not supposed to do after leaving the royal family. Charles needs to stop letting this nonsense go and act.”
Another added: “Imagine hating the royal family, dishing on senior royals and trashing the British monarchy at every opportunity… But then demand to be addressed with the titles given to you by the same royal family you hate and keep dining on.”
Meanwhile, a third posted a clip from Meghan’s Netflix series with Prince Harry, showing the Duchess performing a “medieval” curtsy.
“Meghan Markle can claim she is nice and has nothing to prove but Meghan will never recover from this,” they said.
The revelation follows Meghan’s comments on the podcast, in which she described experiencing a fresh ‘honeymoon’ phase with her spouse after the duo gained “a little bit of breathing space” following their withdrawal from Royal responsibilities.
Meghan explained the pair found it difficult to completely savor each other’s presence during the early stages of their romance as they were rapidly thrust “into the trenches” by intense media attention.
The duo began their courtship in 2016 and proceeded to wed two years afterward, fulfilling numerous Royal obligations before their exit from Royal life.
During the podcast appearance, the Duchess revealed: “You have to imagine at the beginning, everyone has, like, butterflies. Then we immediately went into the trenches together. Yeah, right out of the gate, like six months into dating.
“So now, seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way, and that’s why I feel like it’s more of a honeymoon period for us now.”
The duchess commended her spouse for maintaining the family’s safety.
