Prince Harry and Meghan Markle believe the British royal family took a “dig” at them during Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK.
Last week, the U.S. president and the First Lady Melania Trump spent a few days staying at Windsor Castle after being invited by King Charles III and Queen Camila.
During their visit, the Prince and Princess of Wales also met with the President and his wife, despite the busy couple keeping their distance when Harry met with his father just days before.
Along with the reigning couple, the two attended the Windsor Castle State Banquet, where Trump reportedly made a speech thanking his hosts for their hospitality.
In his speech, the president showered the royals with praises. He took a moment to specifically commend Prince William for being a “remarkable son” and expressed his belief that the heir will achieve “incredible success in the future.”
Donald’s statement drew attention from many, who noted that he made no mention of Charles’s other son in his remarks. According to Rob Shuter, the Sussexes were also taken back by the comments, however, they were reportedly more focused on the royal’s reaction.
A source shared, “It was a dig, no question. Watching the family laugh along felt like betrayal.
“The pomp, the handshakes, the compliments — to them, it looks like bowing down to a man who has openly insulted them for years,” the insider explained.
Two years after their royal wedding in 2018, the couple stepped back from their royal titles and relocated to Montecito, Calif. While their conflicts with the royal family intensified afterward, Meghan and Harry’s feud with Donald began long before they left.
In May of 2016, the actress starred on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore when she was still a part of the Suits cast. She had described the businessman “misogynistic” and “divisive.”

Their feud has only escalated since then with Donald previously calling Harry “whipped” and stating he is “not a fan” of Meghan’s.
Before he was re-elected, the businessman threatened to deport the Duke if he returned to the Oval Office.
In February of 2024, the former president spoke exclusively to the Daily Express US at the CPAC conference in Washington, D.C. During the interview, he admitted, “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen [Elizabeth II]. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me.”
His thoughts have changed since he started his second term. Speaking to the celebrity.land, he said, “I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
