Donald Trump was in the UK last week for a state visit, and while it was only three days, it was quite an affair, with all eyes on the US President.
It could have easily overshadowed Prince Harry, who is in pursuit of a royal reconciliation with his father, King Charles, but that isn’t the case, says one royal expert.
We had a check-in with Lynn Carratt, Director at E20 Communications, who sees the intensity of the royal calendar as a good thing, that the Royal Family are back to work, and just because Harry isn’t front and center, he hasn’t been forgotten.
Carratt said: “There is no denying that the royal calendar has been intense over the past couple of weeks with the Duchess of Kent’s funeral and Trump’s state visit and news cycles move fast, a major moment one week can be overshadowed the next.”
She added: “But that isn’t to say Harry’s visit has been forgotten, his visit to the Ukraine was significant and put him back in the spotlight for humanitarian work away from his Royal connections.”
In terms of Harry, the royal reconciliation meetings will be kept private, so just because we aren’t seeing or hearing updates, that doesn’t mean they aren’t happening, says the expert.
It seemed liked Trump’s visit could’ve thrown off the royal reconciliation, but according to Carratt, that’s not the case, the Duke laid down some good groundwork while in the UK, just two weeks ago, and next steps will happen in good time.
Carratt explained:“While the state visit wasn’t without controversy, it did appear to go well from the side of the Royal Family and without a doubt helped to improve UK-US relations and the public stage has been reset.”
She added:“King Charles and the rest of the family will return to more private or behind-the-scenes negotiations about Harry’s future visits or relationships.”

And now that the state visit is done and dusted, Charles can put his full attention on the UK and family matters, which may include welcoming Harry back into the fold.
She added: “Harry’s private tea with King Charles was a symbolic step and I’m hoping their relationship is going in the right direction.”
