Janhvi Kapoor honoured her late mother, legendary actor Sridevi, during the premiere of ‘Homebound’ in Mumbai, held on Monday. Kapoor arrived in a royal blue and black saree with gold embroidery, a piece her mother wore to the wedding reception of Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma in 2017. The premiere followed the announcement that ‘Homebound’ is India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Film category at the 2026 Oscars, making Kapoor’s tribute especially poignant.
Janhvi’s saree, crafted by Manish Malhotra, was previously showcased by Sridevi, who described it as her favourite. Kapoor’s gesture served as a heartfelt nod to her mother’s legacy. At the premiere, Kapoor kept her accessories minimal and styled her hair in a bun, creating a look distinct from her mother’s while honouring her memory.

The event, hosted by Karan Johar, was attended by industry figures including Hrithik Roshan, Vicky Kaushal, Tamannaah Bhatia, Twinkle Khanna, Farah Khan, and Manish Malhotra, among others.
The occasion was further elevated by the announcement that ‘Homebound’, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa, is India’s official Oscar entry.
Janhvi expressed her gratitude on social media, writing: “Every part of this film has been nothing short of a dream. The journey, the people, what this story means, and how personal its been for everyone in our team. At every step I have been thankful I could witness this journey, which in my mind was truly the reward in itself. ‘Homebound’ will compete with international entries for a spot in the final Academy Award nominations, to be announced on January 22, 2026.
