Jimmy Kimmel is back on the air. But if you live in the Harrisburg area, you might not be able to see his return to the small screen.
That’s because Nextstar Media Group, which owns several ABC stations, including ABC27 in Harrisburg, said it would continue to preempt the show, “pending assurances that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve.”
The announcement comes on the heels of the Sinclair Broadcast Group saying it would keep Kimmel’s show off of its stations, although “discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”
The two corporations collectively control about a quarter of ABC affiliates.
ABC, which is owned by Disney, announced yesterday that it would reinstate “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
“We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday,” said a statement from the network.
The network had suspended the show indefinitely last week after comments Kimmel made about President Donald Trump in the wake of the shooting death of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
“We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during his opening monologue on Sept. 15.
If you want to watch Kimmel’s return to television, the good news is there are other options.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is available to watch via the streaming services Disney+ and Hulu.
You can also also livestream the show via FuboTV (free trial) or SlingTV (low intro rate).
Tonight’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is scheduled to air at 11:35 p.m. ET or 10:35 CT Tuesday, Sept. 23, on most ABC stations.
It isn’t know yet who the guests will be on tonight’s episode.
