LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — It is not every day students get to perform in front of a rockstar. But on Tuesday, one Las Vegas school had the chance to learn from one of heavy metal’s biggest names.

When you think of school, you likely do not picture a rockstar in the classroom. But at the Rock Academy of Performing Arts, part of Delta Academy, students got exactly that.

Five Finger Death Punch bassist Chris Kael paid a visit, sharing his journey from Las Vegas kid to international heavy metal star.

“If I can do it, they can do it too. I’m just a kid from Kentucky that grew up in Lexington and loved music, loved Kiss, and loved people,” Chris Kael, Bassist for Five Finger Death Punch, said.

Kael told students at the Rock Academy the journey to a successful career starts with education and passion.

“Be reserved when you’re trying to learn your craft and pay attention to the small details. You are big, let the world see it,” Kael said.

Beyond the performance, Kael spoke about the importance of music education.

Doctor Jay Caballero chief rock officer at the academy, said music education is at the heart of their mission.

For the students, it was not just about hitting the right notes; it was about proving that their passion for music can open doors.

They had the honor of performing songs from Five Finger Death Punch in front of Kael. They said playing in front of a real rock star was both daunting and unforgettable.

“Playing in front of him, especially someone on Chris’ level, it’s honestly nerve-wracking.” Haylie Gering said.

Kael and Five Finger Death Punch will be donating a new, signed NSX Spector Series bass guitar to the academy in January.
