Jimmy Kimmel delivered an emotional monologue during his return to television. The host addressed his supporters and critics while reflecting on freedom of speech. He also opened up about the controversy surrounding his comments on the shooting of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue trends as he makes a comeback

Jimmy Kimmel returned to late-night television on Tuesday, receiving a long-standing ovation from his studio audience, who chanted “Jimmy, Jimmy” in unison. It was his first broadcast since ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a week, and the host opened the show with a deeply emotional monologue.

Drawing parallels to Jack Paar’s legendary 1960 return to The Tonight Show, Kimmel remarked, “As I was saying before I was interrupted….” He expressed sincere gratitude toward his audience, colleagues, and supporters who reached out during his absence. The host added, “And most of all, I want to thank the people who don’t support my show and what I believe, but support my right to share those beliefs anyway.” This included Ben Shapiro, Clay Travis, Candace Owens, and Ted Cruz, among others.

Kimmel addressed the controversy that led to his suspension, emphasizing that he never intended to make fun of Charlie Kirk. He explained that he had posted a message on Instagram the day of the shooting, expressing love and compassion for the victim’s family. “I still do,” he added.

Kimmel also clarified that his comments were not meant to blame any group for the actions of the perpetrator. He said, “Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what it was obviously a deeply disturbed individual.” The host added, “I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone. This was a sick person who believed violence is a solution, and it isn’t.”

Throughout the monologue, Kimmel highlighted the significance of freedom of expression in America. He noted, “This show is not important. What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.” He also delivered pointed jabs at President Donald Trump.
