ASAP Rocky believes Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s 2024-defining feud was “healthy for hip-hop,” though he seems perplexed by the beef ultimately leading to legal action.
In an interview with Clover Hope for ELLE, seen in full here, Rocky spoke briefly about the extensive back-and-forth, giving his reasoning for why he “fell back” as the feud escalated. Rocky, notably, was widely speculated to have dissed Drake on “Show of Hands,” a track off Future and Metro Boomin’s We Still Don’t Trust You.
“It was healthy for hip-hop,” Rocky told ELLE. “The battle was between Kendrick and Drake, not Drake and everybody else who might have said something at that time, and that’s mainly why I fell back. I just hate the way it’s turning out with [Drake] suing and all that. What part of the game is that? What type of s**t is that? That’s none of my business, I guess.”
Rocky has addressed matters of Drake and Kendrick in the past. Back in March, he performed a new song at Rolling Loud in which he declined to take any expected sides, like so:
“I ain’t on Cole, I ain’t on Drake, I ain’t on Kendrick’s side/I choose homicide, they gon’ see a different side.”
As for Drake’s “Not Like Us”-spurred legal action against Universal Music Group, the move has remained a source of commentary from no shortage of artists over the past year. Drake’s claims against UMG, as Complex reported in January, ranged from defamation to a violation of the New York General Business Law.
UMG denied the accusations, and by March the music corporation had been reported to have filed a motion to dismiss the suit.
ComplexCon returns to Las Vegas on October 25–26, 2025, with over 300 brands and live performances by Young Thug, YEAT & Friends, Peso Pluma, Central Cee, Ken Carson, and more. Get your tickets now.
