Ciara is showing her support for her husband, Russell Wilson, as he faces a career shake-up in New York.
The New York Giants confirmed that Wilson, 36, would be benched after an 0-3 start to the season on Wednesday, September 24. ESPN first reported the news on Tuesday, September 23.
Rookie Jaxson Dart, 21, will take over as the starting quarterback, beginning with their Sunday, September 28th matchup against Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Shortly after the news broke, Ciara, 39, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message for her hubby, who she married in 2016.
“We love you so much,” Ciara captioned a photo of herself and the couple’s four children: Future Zahir, 10, Sienna, 7, Win, 4, and Amora, 22 months.
Wilson echoed the sentiment on his own page, captioning the same image: “My why! Love you guys @ciara.”
Ciara has often spoken about the challenges of supporting Wilson through his career highs and lows, from his Super Bowl win with the Seattle Seahawks in 2014 to his struggles with the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers, and now, in New York.
Wilson signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Giants in March.
The benching comes after a rocky Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, where Wilson threw two interceptions in a 22-9 defeat.
Home fans at MetLife Stadium began chanting, “We want Dart!,” making the decision to move forward with the rookie feel inevitable.
Giants head coach, Brian Daboll, explained his reasoning behind the switch.
“I don’t think any rookie quarterback is ever just ready to play,” he told reporters on Wednesday. “You put him in there because you think that he’s done enough to show you that he can go out there and compete. And (Jaxson) has done that every step of the way. That’s why I made the decision.”
Daboll added that Wilson was “a pro” about the move and said he expects the veteran to serve as the Giants’ backup for the remainder of the season. He declined to answer whether he’d consider a trade or release if Wilson requested one.
For Dart, the change marks the start of a new era. The Giants’ 2025 first-round pick out of Ole Miss impressed during preseason, completing 32 of 47 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
Now, he’ll step onto the field for his first NFL start with the spotlight squarely on him.
