The members of three popular rock bands from the 1990s have come together to form a new supergroup.
Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker, R.E.M. bassist/vocalist Mike Mills and The Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman have created Howl Owl Howl, which was formally announced via Instagram on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
“It feels great to be singing with a rock band again. It’s like buddies getting together, but also getting to play with your idols,” Rucker told Billboard. “The stuff we’re writing is so different than anything I’ve tried to do before.”

“You never can explain band chemistry,” Mills added. “We all like each other. And we all admire each other musically. All those things come together and if it weren’t fun, we wouldn’t be doing it.”
The “longtime friends” will release their first single, “My Cologne,” on Oct. 31. Howl Owl Howl also released a list of shows Friday, including a performance at Paradise Rock Club in Boston on Nov. 8.
“We’re finally going to get to plug in and let it rip a little bit,” Gorman told Billboard.
