A legendary rapper, actor and producer from the Bay State will be working in Shrewsbury in October.
Mark Wahlberg will film scenes for his upcoming movie, Weekend Warriors, near Grafton Street in the Central Massachusetts town on Oct. 8, according to Mark Fitzgerald, a location manager who spoke on behalf of Apple Studios.
Fitzgerald told the town’s select board about Wahlberg’s new movie during its Sept. 23 meeting.
The select board approved closing the area near 708 Grafton St. from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 8 for the filming.
“It’s a great story,” Fitzgerald said to the board. “Mark plays a long-haul trucker whose son has autism, and they do a bunch of road trips to bond. They go to all the NBA arenas.”
The film is based on a German movie called Weekend Rebels, which tells a similar story, but revolves around soccer instead of basketball, according to Weekend Warrior’s IMDb page.
Born in Dorchester, Wahlberg is known for his music career as the leader of the hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Songs by the group include “Wildside” and “Good Vibrations.” Wahlberg also has a renowned acting career, starring in films such as The Departed, Planet of the Apes and Ted.
Wahlberg is also a co-owner of Wahlburgers, along with his brothers, Paul and Donnie.
