Rumours have recently started swirling about the Royal Family, and they have reportedly brought a “flicker of suspicion in royal circles” that something of a plot is afoot
After weeks of speculation, Prince Harry finally met up with his father, King Charles, in person, marking the first time the father and son had breached their stalemate in 19 months.
Roughly around the same time, reports started cropping up, filled with rumours that Prince William and King Charles are not currently seeing eye to eye.
The timings of these new rumours emerging led some experts – and insiders from the royal circle – to become somewhat suspicious that there is a conspiracy or plot to actively “manufacture division” between the monarch and heir – but no one has yet pointed fingers at who exactly they believe is responsible.
Royal expert Tina Brown reported on her Substack that King Charles was, despite years of acrimony with his youngest son, “less irritated” with Harry than he currently is with William.

Brown alleged that Charles is frustrated by the smaller number of official engagements William undertakes. The Prince of Wales has long been understood to prefer a high-impact approach with splashy projects like Earthshot and Homewards, which aim to find solutions to the climate and homelessness crises, respectively, rather than volume of appearances.
However, Charles currently undertakes quite a large number more engagements than his son, and Brown claimed, “Somehow, William’s parenting dedication always seems couched as a tacit criticism of the king’s own paternal deficiencies”.
Tom Sykes for the Royalist newsletter also reported that William and Charles haven’t been getting along.
A royal aide speaking to the Standard noted that things have long been “tricky” between the heir and the monarch, and that “William never phones his Dad directly but has to schedule a call through the King’s private office”.
Meanwhile, royal expert, Rebecca English, recently revealed that “angry rows” have been overheard by royal staff between the father and son – even through the “thick palace walls”.
“Harsh words have been exchanged in the past, angry rows permeating even the thickest castle walls, sometimes within earshot of staff,” the expert said.
“There have also been clashes of opinion on the professional side, such as the retention of ivory treasures in the Royal Collection (William wants to burn them, Charles believes they should be kept as historical artefacts), which not so long ago resulted in a ‘frank’ exchange.”
However, according to the Mail‘s royal experts, these claims have been dubbed a “plot” and “conspiracy” to create tension between William and Charles, with one report quoting a royal insider as saying, “It’s evident there’s an attempt to manufacture division between them, when in reality, no such rift exists.
“In truth, their relationship is as strong as ever, they are aligned in their work, with many areas of shared interest, and united in their vision for the role of the Royal Family.”
The Mail also reported, “There’s now more than a flicker of suspicion in royal circles that something more calculated could be at work. What or who may be behind the conjecture isn’t clear. But it is a worrying turn of events”.
However, royal expert Sykes called this “palace spinners in overdrive,” standing by his original reporting.
