The Big House is the biggest venue of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, but it’s been relegated almost for football alone. There have been other uses for Michigan Stadium, including other sports. We’ve seen both Wolverines and Detroit Red Wings hockey take place in the 107,601 capacity stadium, but with the maize and blue on bye week this weekend, a new use was deployed.
Country singer Zach Bryan had the honor of being the first artist to stage a concert at The Big House, and as a result, more people streamed through the gates than any non-festival concert in United States history.
Complete with pyrotechnics, fireworks, and a stage that allowed a 360-degree view, it was a sight to behold. You can see some footage and aerial views below.
It might have been the first concert at The Big House, but it almost assuredly won’t be the last. Now that the biggest concert in U.S. history has taken place, the University of Michigan and bigger artists will certainly aim to pack in the stands in Ann Arbor over other Detroit-area venues like Ford Field and Little Caesar’s Arena.
Bryan’s supporting acts included John Mayer and Ryan Bingham.
