One of the most popular bands of the 1990s had a revival at this year’s Global Citizens Festival that took place on Saturday evening in New York City.
Global Citizens Festival takes place every year and is focused on raising funds to facilitate the access of clean energy to a million people across Africa, as well as to help protect the Amazon rainforest and provide quality education for 30,000 children around the world.
This year’s headliners included Shakira and Cardi B, while Tyla, ROSÉ, Rema, Ayra Starr, Mariah the Scientist, Camilo and Elyanna also performed. The Weeknd was supposed to headline this year, but cancelled his performance at the last minute due to personal reasons.
ROSÉ, a member of the popular K-pop group BLACKPINK, joined the lineup of the star-studded music festival less than a week before it took place.

The 28-year-old singer delivered a show-stopping setlist at Global Citizen this year. She opened with a solo rendition of her hit “APT.” before moving into “two years” from her debut album rosie. The crowd sang along with her as she took on a cover of The Cranberries’ classic, “Linger.” She then closed the performance on a high note with her track “toxic till the end.”
“Linger” was released by the Irish alternative rock band in 1993 as the second single for their debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?. The video of the K-pop star singing the tune made its rounds on social media, with most people praising her performance.
“My 90s heart just soared,” a fan commented on X. “ROSÉ understood the assignment.”
“Her voice has this haunting quality that fits ‘Linger’ perfectly,” another said. “Dolores would be proud,” referring to the late lead vocalist of The Cranberries, who passed away in 2018.
“Rosé’s voice, pure magic,” a user wrote.
“GORG,” a popular meme account commented.
One fan wrote, “She absolutely devoured it.”
“It was so beautiful!! 😭,” a fan account dedicated to the singer commented. “Rosé is amazing!!”
Born Roseanne Park in 1997 in New Zealand and raised in Australia, she rose to international fame as a member of the K-pop powerhouse girl group BLACKPINK. She debuted with the group in 2016 under YG Entertainment, quickly gaining recognition for her vocals and stage presence. With BLACKPINK, the “number one girl” singer has achieved global chart success, sold-out tours and numerous awards, including a VMA for Song of the Year for “APT.”
In 2024, while BLACKPINK was on a hiatus so each of the members could focus on their solo projects, ROSÉ released her debut solo album, rosie, which has millions of streams. This past summer, BLACKPINK made their comeback and released their first song together in two years titled “JUMP.” They are also in between legs of their Deadline World Tour, which will continue next month in Asia.
This past week, ROSÉ has been around New York City, making appearances on The Howard Stern Show and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she appeared in the talk show’s cold open and played a game of charades with Fallon and Kate McKinnon.
From putting her own spin on ’90s classics to belting out her own hits, ROSÉ had the Global Citizen crowd completely captivated. Between her solo work and BLACKPINK’s world tour, fans can’t wait to see what she does next.
