Jimmy Kimmel’s Job Is Still ‘Very Much in Jeopardy’ Amid Return After ABC Suspension

Jimmy Kimmel may be back on the airwaves for now, but he’s on borrowed time. A source tells the National Enquirer that there’s still a chance the 57-year-old late-night host could get canceled, and the situation has him in a major state of panic behind the scenes.

“He’s far from out of the woods and he must know that this is only a temporary reprieve,” the source says. “His job is still very much in jeopardy. Jimmy [is] a dead man walking career-wise.”

While the source adds that Kimmel’s tears during the opening monologue when Jimmy Kimmel Live! returned were real, “he’s one step away from completely losing it.”

“He’s up to his neck in trouble and his friends are supportive to a point, but there’s only so much they can do,” the source continues. “They may not be there to hold his hand for the long haul. Hollywood has a way of moving on, and they’re likely to cut him loose at some point. Meanwhile, Jimmy’s short on sleep and sick of being stuck with these lawyers. He’s really struggling.”

Kimmel’s show was paused on September 17 after he criticized Donald Trump and his supporters’ reactions to the death of Charlie Kirk. However, it returned five days later after public outcry and worries that the decision infringed on First Amendment rights.

Prior to his suspension, Kimmel had talked about retiring.  In February 2024, he told the Los Angeles Times that he had “a little more than two years left” on his contract and said that it “seemed like enough.”

On September 15, a separate source told the National Enquirer that Kimmel was saying “he doesn’t have much time left in the business [because] that the whole genre is changing,” and that he was “figuring out his next steps.”
