If prosecutors get their way, Sean “Diddy” Combs could be behind bars for years to come.
On Tuesday, September 30, prosecutors sent a memo to the judge asking for the disgraced rapper, 55, to be sentenced to 11 years in prison, according to ABC News.
As the National Enquirer previously reported, the media mogul was convicted of two counts of transportation for prostitution in July, which carry a maximum sentence of 10 years per count. However, he was acquitted of the racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges.
“The defendant will not be punished for any crimes of which he was acquitted, of course, but punishment for his crimes of conviction must take into account the manner in which he committed them,” prosecutors wrote in the memo, per the outlet.
The prosecution cited the music mogul’s “decades of unchecked violence” and “decades of psychological, emotional and physical damage he has inflicted,” as reasons to lock him up for over a decade.
As for what the record producer’s defense thinks, they said the recommendation was “draconian,” and equated it to “verdict be damned — lock him up and throw away the key.”
The defense argues that Diddy’s time already served at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn should be sufficient, as reported by the Enquirer last week.
“He has served over a year in one of the most notorious jails in America – yet has made the most of that punishment,” the defense wrote in a sentencing memo per Page Six. “It is time for Mr. Combs to go home to his family, so he can continue his treatment and try to make the most of the next chapter of his extraordinary life.”
Diddy will learn his fate in a New York courtroom on Friday, October 3.
