Keith Urban seemed to snub Nicole Kidman as he changed the lyrics of a romantic song during a performance following their divorce announcement.
Resurfaced footage shows the 57-year-old country singer replacing the word “baby” with “Maggie” in his song The Fighter while singing alongside emerging singer Maggie Baugh.
The song, which was originally a duet with Carrie Underwood, was inspired by his bond with Nicole in the early days of their relationship and it was written as a vow of protection for her. But now, he seemingly changed the lyrics after Nicole, 58, filed for divorce.
Keith changed the original line “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter” to “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.”
The clip was shared by Maggie, 25, at the weekend – before news that Nicole had filed for divorce emerged.
Someone else wrote, “Wow, that song was made for Nicole. For him to do that that tells us what he’s really all about. That’s just disgusting. Nicole deserves much better.”
Oscar-winning actor Nicole filed for divorce from Keith after 19 years of marriage. The petition, filed in a Nashville court, stated the couple has undergone “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.”
The estranged couple have been red carpet fixtures throughout their two-decade relationship, with Keith joining his wife at the Oscars and Nicole attending music events like the Academy of Country Music Awards.
The filings include a marriage dissolution and childcare plan agreed on by the couple and submitted for a judge’s approval.
“The mother and father will behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship with the child even though they are divorced,” says the permanent parenting plan, using language common in the state’s divorces.
“They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent. They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.”
The plan asks that Nicole be the primary residential parent to the couple’s two daughters, ages 17 and 14, having them for 306 days per year with Keith taking them for the other 59.
The girls have lived in Nashville all their lives and the documents give no indication that will change.
